Speaking as guest of honour, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker Wanglin Lowangdong said that apart from literary activities, sports and cultural programmes have equal essence in college life. Participation in such activities develop ones mind and body which helps them in inculcating moral values, the speaker said.
He appealed to the students to dream for a better Arunachal and make the most of the opportunities showered on their way. He also advocated the need of change in the mindsets of the students for blowing the whistle of glory and success in the near future.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The urns containing the ashes of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika arrived at the State Capital today afternoon.
The ashes were carried to the state capital by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki from Guwahati.

Thousands of fans of Dr. Hazarika and eminent personalities, including noted Assamese writer and chief information commissioner Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, DIGP Robin Hibu, capital complex deputy commissioner Onit Panyang paid glowing tributes to the portrait of Dr. Hazarika at State Museum here.
A wreath was laid on behalf of Governor General (Retd.) J.J. Singh.
All religion prayers were also being performed involving heads of various religious groups and believers.
The urns would be kept at the museum till 2 pm Tuesday, before travel to Doimukh for immersion of the ashes in Dikrong River. The ashes would be dispatched to other districts tomorrow, the DC informed this daily.
The Assam government had consented to send the ashes following the request of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) that the cultural icon’s ashes be immersed in the major rivers of Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tuki said that Dr. Hazarika had a special affection towards the people of Arunachal Pradesh and its culture among seven Northeastern states, which reflected through his works.
“He would be remembered by the people of this state for his love for tribal culture and his contributions in documenting and uplifting varied culture of the state through music and cinema,” Tuki added.
“The new generation of our state might not be aware of his greatness, but the people of undivided Assam cannot forget Dr. Hazarika easily and his melodious songs will always remain close to the hearts of many people,” Thongchi said.
Hazarika was born at Bolung village in the bank of river Dibang at Sadia, Assam in 1926 and died on November five last in Mumbai. His mortal remains were consigned to flames inside the Guwahati University campus, Assam on Wednesday last.
Promising media professional dies
NAHARLAGUN, Nov 14: Nyajum Kakki, an intern at the Centre for Cultural Research and Documentation (CCRD) and a budding media professional, died in a tragic accident allegedly after coming in contact with live electric wire in a steep hilly slope behind the Baptist church in E Sector here this morning.

Tuki calls for promotion of renewable energy
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: On the backdrop of non renewable energy being extensively used for human comfort and the alarming global warming gripping the beautiful earth, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki emphasized for promoting and making use of renewable energy like Solar energy, Wind Energy in place of non renewable energy.
The Chief Minister called upon the citizens to seriously think over the ways and means to conserve energy for sustenance of the human beings.
He was speaking as chief guest in the State Level Painting Competition on Energy Conservation organized by the Union Ministry of Power, NHPC in collaboration of Power and Education department of the state in an impressive function here at Banquet hall this evening.
The chief minister categorically stressed the need to create awareness on conservation of energy for future and appealed to the media to shoulder the responsibility of educating the mass on the issue.
While appreciating the organizers for organizing such event which served dual purposes like preserving the energy as well as discovering new artistic young talents from the state in the field of fine arts, Tuki requested the Power Giants to organize such events in regular intervals.
Tuki amazed by the beautiful paintings of the young children which depicted the essence of life and its necessity, called for proper nurturing of these talents.
He congratulated the winners of the painting competition and wished them success in the national level competition also.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Secretary Bandana Deori informed the gathering that the painting competition had a rigorous 2 months exercise where 8165 students across the state had participated. Amongst them 50 best painters were selected for final competition on the day earlier and from which 3 emerged as winners and will be representing the state of Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi on the last part of December for the National Painting Competition.
While a Class 6 student of Devine Word School Roing Lone Megha bagged the first prize, Rashmi Devi, a class 4 student of KV No. 1 Itanagar stood second, and finally Hocha Soonnayan, class 6 student of Sarda Mission Khonsa clinched the third prize. Ten participants were given consolation certificates.

Namsai, Nov 14: On the occasion of Swachhata Utsav, a Sanitation Walk was conducted in Lohit. The sanitation walk was organized to give a boost to Total Sanitation Campaign in the District. Walk was organized at Tezu, Lathao, Chowkham and Piyong circle.
At Wakro about 100 children and Govt. official took part in the sanitation walk where a street play on plastic pollution was organized. At Mahadevpur the Govt. officers and staff, Panchayat leaders and student celebrated Swachhata Utsav by taking out sanitation walk. During the programme the panchayat leaders advocated for clean environment and safe sanitary practices.
People from all walks of life, including officers, PRI’s, Bazar committee and School Children led by ADC, Namsai T. Miso all Heads of offices participated in the sanitation walk which culminated in Bazar Trafic Chowk. Addressing about 600 participants, the ADC Namsai gave a clarion call for a paradigm shift in the mindset of the people to inculcate the sense of cleanliness, environment sanitation and personal hygiene in all walks of life.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The Birth anniversary of the First Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was observed today all over the country as Children’s day.
Numerous programmes were held to mark the day.
While the chief guest of the Children’s Day function at Apna Vidya Bhavan was walking towards the venue a boy walking beside the dignitary asked, “Where are you going”.
“To the Apna Vidya Bhavan” replied O.S. Chandran, formerly Deputy Commissioner in Chennai.
“Oh I am also going that way, Please take my umbrella, it has started drizzling” said the boy extending his umbrella.
Chandran after attending the function appreciated Diman Tamblu a six years old for his spontaneity, generosity and confidence.
He also lauded the school for the proper grooming of children.
Outstanding children of the AVB and KGBV, Wakro were awarded by Chandran. 150 children from the KGBV and AVB also participated in the Sanitation walk to mark the 2011 Children’s Day organized by the Namsai PHE and Water Supply division. The children campaigned for sanitation and cleanliness, walking around the town with banners and placards to promote use of toilets.
Vaijayanti Tonpe, a renowned writer from Delhi gave away writing materials to all the children. Vaijayanti appreciated the Arunachali children for their creativity and originality. The renowned writer is stationed in Lohit in her endeavor to devote some time in selfless service for Arunachal Pradesh.
Bank of Maharashtra, Itanagar Branch celebrated Children’s Day with the student of Guardian Angel School at the school premises. The bank organized an essay writing competition on the topic” Youth Power” and around 30 students from class V to VIII participated in it.
Abhishek Gupta won the 1st prize while Aditi Kumari and Pemba Kesang bagged the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
All the three position holders were awarded by the bank. The bank intended to inculcate savings habit among the youth of the region.

Dupit dethrones Linggi to become new chess champion
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Gapor Dupit dethroned current champion Bharat Linggi in the 3rd State Level Open Chess Championship to become new Chess champion of the state.
Dupit earned a total 7.5 points at the end of the final round while Linggi could manage 7 point. Raluk Dui secured the 3rd spot with 7 points while Tapung Pogia Mara (7.0 pts) and Minte Siga (6.5 pts) won the 4th and 5th position respectively.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: A one day training programme on Vegetable Cultivation was organized for Farm Women of SHG at Iduli village today by Krishi Vigyan Kendra , Lower Dibang Valley District.
Vijay Krishna Pandey, SMS (Horticulture) participating as resource person provided information on necessity of establishment of Kitchen Garden as well as conducted method demonstration on preparation of raised bed and line sowing of the improved variety seeds of vegetables in the backyard garden.
Dr. T.J. Ramesha, Programme Coordinator, called upon farm women to actively participate in the training programmes, gain suitable scientific knowledge for optimum utilization of farm resources to obtain sustainable production and economic returns.
Jimmy Mize (SMS, Fisheries), Monika Panggam (SMS, Agronomy) also participated in the programme and collectively demonstrated pit making for production of nutrient enriched compost utilizing farm wastes.
Besides this, demonstration on soil samples collection was also organized and after learning this technique farm women voluntarily came forward and collected samples from their standing potato crop plot, that is encountered with disease problem for analysis at KVK Office.

ANYA dissatisfied with Rijiju clarification
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has expressed dissatisfaction with explanation given by former MP Kiren Rijiju regarding his involvement in infamous Pradeep Thakur issue.
Further, ANYA wanted to know why the former MP is demanding CBI enquiry at this point of time. Being principal advisor to former CM Jarbom Gamlin, Kiren had all position and capacity to explain to the Nyishi community the facts of the case. Instead he coordinated with Gamlin government along with some vested Nyishi people and prepared stage managed CD apology, stated ANYA.
At that point of time, the former MP could have advice the then CM to handover the case to CBI as he was principal advisor to CM, it said.
Behaviour Change Communication on Malaria
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: A two days workshop on Behaviour Change Communication on Malaria was held in Aalo from Nov 12.
The workshop was inaugurated by former MLA Tumpak Ete, who emphasised on malaria free West Siang. Earlier, Dr Gekey Ete, District Malaria Officer, Aalo stressed on total elimination of malaria from the district and requested the participants to impart their knowledge to the fellow citizens.
The workshop was organised by Voluntary Health Association of India, in collaboration with the District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, West Siang District.

Participatory hand on field demonstration
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Two days hand on practical field demonstration was held at Digbak village in Upper Subansiri district under the project entitled National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) on 11th and 12th Nov.
It was conducted by KVK West Siang, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, A.P. Centre, Basar.
The team comprising of A. Kirankumar Singh, SMS (Agronomy), along with two Research Associates Gyati Riku and Bharat Singh with assistance from DAO Upper Subansiri demonstrated sowing of Toria and Potato maintaining the spacing properly for successful production in 13 farmers’ field covering about 9 hectares of land. The team also witnessed the hand on practical done by the farmers themselves in the field located between Digbak and Belo villages.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Deputy Speaker Tapang Taloh expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, who breathed his last at Mumbai on November 5 sending a shock wave across the nation.
Recalling his contributions towards the nation and Arunachal Pradesh in particular in the field of music and film industry, Taloh said that Dr. Hazarika’s death has created a great vacuum which can not be filled easily.

Condolences
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Former Banderdewa Baazar Welfare Committee (BBWC) general secretary Phassang Tagung died yesterday at his own residence at Banderdewa after a prolonged illness, according to family sources.
Tagung was around 52 years. He left behind his two wives, six daughters and a son. He was also president of Banderdewa Village Welfare Committee from 1993 to 19 96.
Meanwhile, the Banderdewa Bazar Welfare Committee (BBWC), panchayat and public leaders of Banderdewa area deeply mourned the death of Tagung and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
The shopkeepers and business community under BBWC downed the shutters of their establishments from 6 am to 4 pm today as a mark of respect to Phassang.
Attu Dhassang Welfare Society also mourned the untimely demise of Phassang.
The villagers of Remi village condoled the untimely demise of Assistant Teacher of Remi Middle School Tayor Siram, who died on November 12.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
The villagers prayed to almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed its condolence to the bereaved family members.
All Upper Subansiri District Widow Welfare Society, Daporijo deeply mourned the death of its member Yania Dulom, who died at Daporijo on November 12.

ITANAGAR: Nabam Taji, the longest serving Gaon Bura of Kandbug village under Sandupota circle in Papum Pare passed away due to prolonged illness at the age of 92 on Nov 13. He left behind his son and two daughters.
Block Branch President of Congress (I) Ngyrang Changriang expressed his deep condolence to the family members of Nabam Taji. Remembering his achievement as Gaon bura, Changriang stated that it was a huge loss for the people of the area and everyone would remember the contributions by of the Gaon Bura.
Monitoring team at Dibang Valley
ITANAGAR: Third Party Monitoring Team NEDFi inspected the ongoing projects in Dibang Valley district recently.
The team expressed their satisfaction over most of the projects, but it was unhappy with one of the projects being executed by DRDA.
The DPO expressed his dissatisfaction over the road construction being carried out under BADP. The team said that it would report to higher authority for investigation about the chances of its overlapping on RWD road.
The team leader Ankur Bora instructed the JE (Electrical) Roing Division to make some minor rectification on the security fence over the LT Line and to make the foundation of the erected post strong with cement concrete.

The Tibetan response to the Chinese
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have woken up to the fact that more than ten Tibetan monks and nuns have set themselves on fire since March this year in China.
It has urged the Chinese government to end its repressive policies that restrict basic freedom of Tibetans to practice their religion.
It said that the Chinese government should address the underlying causes of protests that have led 11 Tibetans to set themselves on fire since March 2011.
In a letter to Chinese President on November 3, the human rights organizations called on the Chinese government to carry out a comprehensive review of the human rights situation across the Tibetan plateau and to end legal and policy restrictions that breach human rights in the region.

The Chinese government which refuses any dialogue on Tibet needs to do more than just crack down on the protest. Unless its address the core issue, it is unlikely that the Tibetans would stop their protest.
To start with the Chinese must give space to the Tibetans to practice their own religion.

Dear Editor,
I would like to knock at the doors of APPSC. The exam for Assistant Engineer civil was conducted on 2nd of June this year and after a long wait of 6 months there is no notification of the results yet. I request the authorities concerned to declare the result in the earnest, so that further plans and action regarding our future can be decided. We are looking forward to a very fair result to come out soon. The delay is creating a sense of doubt and has compelled us to raise questions. Hope the long wait is answered without any further delay.

I would like to make our people and Govt. realize about the importance of the information technology in today's day to day life.
I think our Arunachal Govt. is very much conscious about the importance of IT/CS
in today's world. But it's really confusing me, why all the IT/CS graduates are unemployed
in our state? Recently I saw an advertisement for contractual appointments through

Also, if the all the data and documents of the recently burnt SE, PWD office had been managed in some database, then there wouldn't have been any problem in recovering them. This is where we IT/CS people are required.

Also, yesterday I checked all the state sites to get the updated map of Arunachal Pradesh. But, alas, even after more than one month there's no mention or map with Longding district. And all the information provided are same as it was couple of years back.
So, I request govt to wake up and realize the importance and create proper IT Sections in each and every department and recruit with proper interviews.
This will help in tackling the unemployment a lot and won't let bright and innovative IT/CS minds getting wasted in other fields.

Take us on the right path of harmony and prosperity
Dear Editor,
This is in response to the letter "One sided view" (Nov. 3) that appeared in your esteemed daily regarding the proposed Siang dam project. The public meeting on Oct 14 and 15, on the proposed Siang dam project was conducted at Pessing in order to express the views of the people. The meeting was attended by the executive members of the Adi Baane Kebang and All Adi Students Union.
The people participated irrespective of political colour and affiliation. Even all the Adi MLAs including the local MLA were invited to attend the meeting. The meeting was organised for the welfare of the whole Adi community. Therefore the meeting was not politically motivated or against any individual as alleged.
It is reported that the MoA for the proposed HE project was signed in February 2006 with JP Pvt. Ltd., when the incumbent local MLA was not in power. But it is evident that many more MoAs for construction of HE projects on Siang Basin has been signed in the recent past during the tenure of the incumbent MLA. The people want to know why the MLA did not take into confidence the will of the people before executing such MoAs. Those so called PR leaders, who are motivated by our local MLA, are befooling and totally misleading the general mass simply for their political gains and vested interests. We would like our leaders to lead our community on the right path of harmony and prosperity.
The basic aim and objective of the steering committee under the chairmanship of the local MLA was formed to study and assess the impact of the proposed HE projects in Siang basin and submit the report to the Government. But instead of only exercising duties assigned to them, treacherously they are acting as PROs, agents of the power companies, which cannot be tolerated and excused by the people. Suppressing the birthright of an individual and misusing the Govt. machinery to coerce into submission is very unfortunate.

I, on behalf of Nyishi Youth Welfare Association (NYWA), strongly condemn the unfounded remarks against NYWA by one Bengia Guma.
It is for kind information to Guma that NYWA is also like one of those many community based organizations like NES, ANSU, UNO, ANYA, ANYO, NWA formed for the cause of Nyishi community.
In a democratic country like ours, everyone has right to express his/her opinion and form associations, organizations with a cause within the framework of the Constitution.
I question Mr. Guma as to how NWYA has sold the soul of Nyishi community in the market?
Further, he has no right to declare an organization like NYWA fake and unrecognized without having any idea and knowledge about the association.

Coal deposits and NHPC
Dear Editor,
I would like to express my resentment over departments concerned and NHPC, Gerukamukh
for overlooking coal deposits in Sibe-
During 1989 to 1992, Geological Survey of India (Coal Wing) had carried out detailed
regional exploration for coal deposits in West Siang and discovered huge quantities
of coal deposits in Garu-
Now, due to the construction of LSHEP, an area of 1225 hectors of land of Sibe area is going to be submerged. Many portions of these lands have coal deposit, even some of it can be clearly seen on the open surfaces. The LSHEP is supposed to be commissioned in 2012. With the commissioning of this Project, these coal deposits and gold field identified by the British during their rule in India will also submerged. The mining of these valuable minerals will become more costly, our state will be losing royalty of these minerals.
Neither, Geological Survey of India, operation Itanagar nor Geology and Mining Department of GoAP is paying interest and aware of these things. Is NHPC keeping these findings under wraps in order to save the payment of compensation for these valuable minerals?
If the present Officials of G.S.I. and Geology and Mining Department of GoAP is unaware, I would like to request the GoAP to issue mining lease/license to the local people by amending or introducing new mining laws and policies by which atleast the local people are benefited and State will get royalty.
